Introduction to ME

Hellooo bloggers :) My name is Cecily Bowen and I am a junior here at UCF majoring in Marketing with anticipations to work for either a professional sports team or a high fashion company such as Chanel, Dior, etc. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and I love everything about my home (except how horrible the Bucs are). I danced for 14 years and cheered competitively as well as on my high school team for 6 years. My family means the world to me and they will always come first.

I'm a person that has a hard time sitting still. Some call it ADHD, I call it curious. I feel as if the world is far too large to be sitting in one place doing the same thing everyday. That being said, I love traveling. I have yet to go to Europe and plan on studying abroad next fall. I'm not picky on location, just somewhere completely opposite of what I know. I love trying new things and meeting new people.. especially trying new food, just don't tell me what it is until after I eat it. I love dogs especially pit-bulls, and taking them to the dog park or the beach on a nice day is one of my favorite past times. I've never been a big fan of kids - even when I was one. I have a passion for learning learning and going to school (until I get behind- then it sucks).

I chose to take Introduction to Women's Studies because I am not very familiar with the subject. I hope to be able to leave this class with a new, more educated opinion on gender roles and what I can do to change the negative things that come along with it. In all honesty, I believe that the media has had the most influence on my opinion on genders. From movies to music, the thoughts of others (or at least what has portrayed) is extremely influential. My family is very southern, so I was raised to believe that all boys should treat women as ladies and with the upmost respect- anything else is unacceptable. Although, it is also assumed that the man should take care of the woman, and she should take car of the house. I strongly disagree with that assumption and I hope that even if I do get married, that I will have a successful career and be the "bread winner" in the relationship. If I could change one thing about gender roles, it would be that this "double standard" that still strongly exists today to cease. By taking this class, I hope that I become more educated in the matter and can then state my opinion in a better way. I look forward to expanding my mind in this class, as well as interacting with my class mates who I can already tell will broaden my horizons.

I have read, understand, and agree to the terms of the course syllabus and the blogging protocols
